FAQs

What kind of job will I be prepared for? Licensed graduates are hired by Urgent Care Clinics, Physician's offices with x-ray facilities, many orthopedic offices, workman's compensation clinics or any facility where skeletal films are needed.

Where do I take my externship? The Extern Coordinator makes an effort to find an extern site as close as possible to the student\'s community. The facility must have a Supervisor Operator and must be affiliated with the school and the California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

How long is the program? Classes are held every other Saturday for 11 months. The externship portion of the program usually begins towards the end of the second semester. The student must demonstrate safe radiation protection practices and an ability to position patients for the required examinations before starting their externship.

Admission Requirements: Applicants for admission must possess a High School diploma, High School Equivalency or GED to be considered for admission to the Medical Career College of Northern California. All applicants must achieve a minimum passing score of 19 on the school's entrance examination. The student must demonstrate the ability to read and write in English.

Graduation Requirements: Students must complete all areas of the program with a cumulative GPA of 70% or better and satisfactory completion of the externship program in an approved medical facility. In addition, students must satisfy all financial obligations to the School to receive their Graduation Certificate.

Do you offer Financial Aid? A student wishing to enroll can apply for a student loan through SLM Financial, a source of Sallie Mae Student Loans.  A school official can assist the student with the application process.  We offer a payment plan and also accept Visa/MC payments. The School is accredited with the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Do you help with job placement? Yes. We frequently get calls from facilities looking for externs and graduates for employment. We also will work with a graduate to find a position for them.  The school does not guarantee placement.

Does the school offer any other programs?  In fall of 2008, the school will launch a Medical Assisting Program.  Interested persons should continue to monitor the website or call the school for start dates and program descriptions.
